I masnadieri (1961)

I masnadieri is a 1961 Italian film set in the year 1585 in Rome, focusing on the power struggle between the Medici and Sforza factions after the death of Pope Gregory XIII. The Duke of Bolsena, a supporter of the Sforzas, holds the leader of the Medici captive, Duke Portoreale, in an attempt to gain the upper hand.
